First Date Guide to Fresh Breath

We all know that first date jitters come with what to wear, which perfume to put on, and most importantly how to avoid bad breath. The obvious food to stay away from before and during a date are smelly things like, garlic, onions, and fish…duh! Although brushing your teeth would alleviate some of the smell after eating, the leftover bacteria in your gums is what could leave you with smelly breath. Not to mention, anxiety plays a role in halitosis so give yourself time to prepare for your date, light a candle, play some tunes, and relax!

A first date entails a lot of conversation and getting to know one-another…hopefully! That being said, it’s a good idea to have a snack before you go off on your romantic evening. A great snack to have before a date is fruits and veggies that are rich in vitamin c. Not only do fruits and vegetables reduce the risk for mouth bacteria to build up by scraping away plaque, they help loosen trapped food particles leftover between teeth and in the mouth. This process is important when mitigating the possibility of bad breath because leftover bacteria in the mouth of any kind produces an odor. Most nuts have magnesium and don’t raise your blood sugar too quickly, therefore they satisfy cravings as well as calm the nervous system. Green tea contains an antioxidant called polyphenols that help rid the mouth of bacteria, and it contains caffeine which can give you just the boost that you need! Oddly enough, parsley contains chlorophyl which has the ability to conceal odor from the mouth, so if you can’t get rid of it, conceal it!

Now that you have a plan of attack for keeping your tummy satisfied, and your breath in check, prepare your talking points and enjoy yourself on your date!
